Alamo Regional 2013
The DiscoBots ( Team 2587 ) ranked 2nd place this past weekend at the Alamo Regional. The event is a annual FIRST Robotics competition in which high school teams must build a robot in 6-weeks to accomplish a robotics challenge.
The newly created challenge this year is called "Ultimate Ascent" in which the robots play a game of scoring frisbees into elevated goals. In addition to scoring frisbees, teams also are awarded points for climbing a large pyramid structure at the end of challenge.
The DiscoBots robot named "Disk Jockey" had a strong showing and ranked 2nd at the event (shown below is a picture of the team and Disk Jockey at their pit).
The team paired up team Bionic Tigers (1592) and the a mexican team (4603) to form the 2nd seed alliance in the elimination tournament.
The semi-finals were hard-fought but the 1st seed showed too much firepower and went on to win 108 to 89 points.
The team uploaded photos on their website and published a build log of their robot design throughout the 6-week build season.
Videos of the matches and results have been uploaded to the blue alliance.
The DiscoBots team is composed of students from Lamar High School, homeschool partnerships and Carnegie Vanguard High School. The success and results of the team would not be possible without the generous sponsorship of Sparx Engineering, ExxonMobil , Shell, EPO, Lamar Alumni Association and Texas Metal Specaility .
